3 Pieces Of Advice For Starting A Business From Your Motorhome

Some RV-based businesses are portable vending locations that sell services and products, while yet others are simply a home office that goes wherever you go.

While home based businesses have become more and more common in recent years, something else that has been steadily picking up steam is an RV based business. An RV based business is the exact same thing as a home based business, with the one exception being that it’s based in your RV.

That’s literally the only difference, so if you believe in your ability to start a home based business or have already started one, then you should easily be able to start an RV based business as well.

If touring the country in your RV and bringing your business with you is something you’ve always wanted to do, you’ll love to hear that there is absolutely nothing to prevent you from doing so.

Here are three pieces of advice for starting a business from your motorhome:

1 – Set Up A Work Environment In Your RV

From bedrooms to bathrooms to kitchens to living rooms to storage spaces and so on, RVs seem to have it all…except office spaces.

While it’s very rare that an RV will come installed with an office space for you to use, this doesn’t mean that you cannot add one on your own.

In fact, having a dedicated work space is absolutely crucial to running your business from your RV. Don’t get the idea that you can always just sit on the floor on the bed with your computer on your lap. You can sometimes, but you’ll always be more efficient sitting on a chair at a desk where you can type away and stay focused.

In essence, you need to set up part of your RV to be very similar to your office space at home, complete with a work desk, an office chair, a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, printer, Wi-Fi router, and whatever else you need.

2 – Set Up A Dedicated Work Regimen

Next, you need to have a dedicated work regimen just as much as you need a dedicated work space.

The reason why this is important is because living in your RV means you’re going to be doing a lot of driving, sightseeing, and making stops.

But through it all, you need to have scheduled time set aside to work. You can’t just travel and then work whenever you feel like doing either. This is a recipe for disaster.

Instead, plan your days a week or more ahead of time so you’ll know exactly which days you’ll be traveling and which days you’ll be working, and which hours of those days you’ll be doing others as well.

3 – Outsource Your Work

Outsourcing as much of your work as you can to freelancers is simply the best way you can free up your time. It’s why many RV entrepreneurs hire freelancers. They simply don’t have the time between working and traveling to do everything that needs to be done.

Yes, hiring freelancers costs money and needs to be incorporated into your budget, but it also permits you to focus on the more important tasks at hand.

If part of your business is running a blog for instance (or maybe running a blog is your entire business), you can free up much of your time by having a freelancer doing the writing, proofreading, and editing for you.

You should be able to locate freelancers for this or any other kind of work for reasonable prices on sites such as Upwork and Guru.

Starting A Business From Your Motorhome

Is starting a viable mobile home business going to be free of any major challenges? Absolutely not. On the contrary, running a business from a motorhome is arguably more difficult in contrast to running one from around your house.

But as was discussed in the introduction, don’t let this discourage you. You don’t have to choose between the dream of traveling across the country in your RV and running your business from home, and the three pieces of advice we have covered today are things you will definitely want to remember and apply.
